iPhone SDK Delayed Until March
February 25th, 2008
Word on the street is that Apple’s iPhone SDK will not in fact be delivered by the end of the month as previously expected. In fact, BusinessWeek reports that the official release date could slide by anywhere from one to three weeks. Apple has consistently delivered new products every Tuesday since Macworld. This Tuesday is expected to be no exception, with minor MacBook and MacBook Pro upgrades expected to feature the new MacBook Air styled track pad and minor speed bumps.
So what is behind the delay? Little is known, but at this stage the SDK is likely to be largely completed. However, there are two other factors that must be considered. Along with the SDK release will come an iPhone firmware update and a selection of applications users can purchase right away via iTunes. It is suspected that it is this latter announcement that has delayed the SDK, whether it be due to third parties with exclusive assess to the SDK taking longer than expected to develop their first applications or more likely a delay early in the development cycle that has shifted the timeframe.
